Super rare linen backed UK quad poster for the screen adaptation of this iconic British novel. Emily Bronte’s tale of doomed lovers, Cathy and Heathcliff, was a landmark in British literature and this 1939 film adaptation, starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon, is by far the most memorable. Not only this but, as a wartime release in the UK, it’s incredibly rare. Almost all paper was routinely recycled in Britain during the Second World War so any posters from this period were lost. This particular example has another unique characteristic of wartime printing in that it was printed on the back of another poster. Although it’s now linen backed, very close examination reveals that there is another faint image showing through from the other side. You wouldn’t know this was present if you hadn’t been told about it and the poster displays superbly.
